Howdy, Plungers!
When I have AirPods in my ears, 90% of the time, they’re playing podcasts. What about you? I’m always curious about your listening habits.
This newsletter is reader-generated. You listen to podcasts. You comment on these posts telling me about them. I recommend your recommendations.
Thank you to the Plungers who commented on last week’s post with their recommendations: Paulette, Joey, and Sarah.
Here are the podcasts you recommended:

ofPodcast: The Magnus Archives
Why do you recommend it: This is a "classic" spooky horror show (somehow it came out more than seven years ago!) but I didn't discover it until a few years after it was released, so hopefully it's new to other people ☺️
It is SUPER creepy and will most certainly give you goosebumps. Would probably recommend listening to it at home, but not before bed. Unless you like sleeping with your eyes wide open, then it's great!

Podcast: Indebted
Why do you recommend it: Indebted is a weekly exploration of debt and race in America, hosted by economic and racial justice organizer Maurice BP-Weeks, that begins with his new baby’s first piece of mail: a $4000 hospital bill. The show breaks down the financial institutions that control our economy through debt, to detail why debt in America works this way — and how to fight back.

ofPodcast: Re:Dracula
Why do you recommend it: It’s an audio drama that follows Bram Stoker’s Dracula in chronological order. The acting is top-notch (especially — though it pains me to say how much I love Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves — in contrast to Coppola’s campy movie), and the horror is real.
As an added bonus, there’s a completely unrelated Substack newsletter that is doing the exact same thing (a chronological retelling of the book) but purely in written form. You can read one while listening to the other, and it’s quite a marvelous pairing. Like Halloween and candy!
What next?
Listen to one (or more!) of the shows listed above and then let us know what you think! Comment on this post.
In contrast to today’s podcast recommendations that seem to lean creepy and intense, here are some kids’ podcasts.
Get the first-ever issue of Good Tape, a print magazine covering the audio industry.
Until next time, happy listening!
It's gloomy and rainy today and I have plenty of candy in prep for Halloween next week...time to fire up these shows!
Has anyone recommended the Daily Fail yet? Because if not, this needs to be on the list. The two hosts tear apart 3 of the worst headlines published by a certain newspaper that is never named. It’s hilarious (if a little infuriating). https://pod.link/1686589901
