Podcast Plunge brings you a sometimes-more-than-weekly newsletter that contains audio-related things that I’ve found around the internet.

🤿 Hello Plungers,
Greetings from NYC! I’ve got a bunch of fun events, podcasts, and threads to share with you this time around.
Before we get into it, I want to shoutout the folks who joined me for Tip to Tip: The Manhattan Walk, including my Counter Programming co-host, Shira Moskowitz, and Scott Gurian, host of the Far From Home podcast. As you can imagine, fun facts were shared and good times were had. We visited many a landmark mentioned by The Bowery Boys. Currently taking suggestions for my next food/walking tour!
Let’s get into it…
This week’s sweet audio-related finds:
1. Misha Euceph’s incredible thread on rates and payment in podcasting/radio
WOW. This is an incredible resource. If you are someone who gets paid to make audio or pays people to make audio, bookmark this thread. Read it. Memorize it. Most importantly, back it up.
2. This scripted audio drama starring David Harbour and other fun celebs
I don’t often recommend audio dramas. That doesn’t mean they’re not incredible sources of entertainment and art. I just constantly listen to news and other depressing real-life things. THIS SHOW, though, is worth it. One of the creators, Ben Haber, reached out to me a few months ago while the show was being recorded on SquadCast and let me listen to a few episodes in advance. I’m VERY excited to hear what happens in this fictional account of a mega-quake off the coast of Los Angeles (that, as you’ll find, doesn’t seem too implausible).
3. This event I’m putting together with Gotham Podcast Studio & SquadCast IN REAL LIFE!
I LOVE getting podcasty people together. Doing it virtually was fine, but I’m pumped to get together IRL with the NYC podcast community. Hope you can make it. We’ll have snacks and drinks and giveaways.
4. This interview with Twila Dang on Sounds Profitable
Twila Dang is the founder/CEO of Matriarch Digital Media. She’s also a producer at Minnesota Public Radio. She’s extremely passionate about promoting diversity, lifting up women and people of color, and helping her peers shine. In this episode, Twila chats with Bryan Barletta about how we might be able to bring more women into the podcast adtech space.
P.s. I interviewed Bryan for the EarBuds podcast this week.
5. This shirt that Lauren Passell (Podcast The Newsletter) got me!
I’m officially part of the Zeit Gang now! I’ve been listening to The Daily Zeitgeist for over a year at this point, but I feel like this really makes it official. Do you own podcast merch?
6. The reaction I got to this tweet about social media usage for podcasters
Social media can be a spectacular way to stay in touch with your listeners and fans. But it can also suck your time. I have many thoughts on this. If you think you’re spending too much time on your podcast’s social media and it’s not yielding results, reply to this email. I’ll give you a fair assessment of your social media presence.
That’s it for now.
