Podcast Plunge brings you a sometimes-more-than-weekly newsletter that contains a podcast episode recommendation, a deep dive into a topic within that episode, and links to other internet things on that topic.
But not this week!

🤿 Hi Plungers,
It’s been some time since we last plunged together. I’ve been busy with SquadCast community work, EarBuds curation work, podcast consultations, Counter Programming, breaking my elbow and having surgery (I’m much better now, thank you), Outlier Pod Fest-ing, and much more.
I’m back for a brief drop-in email to share what I’ve been loving in the podcast space lately. This list will include both audio content and audio companies / initiatives. It won’t follow the format of our regular Plunge newsletters, but we’ll be back soon with that. Maybe.
In the meantime, let me know what you think of this issue. Is it something you’d like to see more of? LMK.

Podcasts & related things I love lately:
The new-ish Groups feature on Goodpods
If you’re not familiar, Goodpods is like Goodreads but for podcasts. Download the app, follow friends and curators, and then on your feed, you’ll see what they’re listening to. You can like and comment on peoples’ listens. Goodpods recently opened a Groups feature, wherein members can interact with each other, recommend shows, and gather to discuss podcasts. I like it. But more importantly, I think if we get a critical mass of people there, it could be a really powerful tool for community and discovery. Follow me on Goodpods.
Giving podcast advice in 5 steps on Twitter
I’m experimenting with marketing myself / my podcast-related ventures by Tweeting out advice in fives.
And it’s been great! I was featured in PodMov, Podcast Movement’s daily newsletter. Thanks to Brennan Tapp for the write-up!
Blindspot: Tulsa Burning
I started listening to this podcast earlier this week. May 31st, 2021 was the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre. By June 1st, 1921, the Greenwood district of Tulsa, OK was in ashes and hundreds of Black people had been killed. The business district of what was known as Black Wall Street was destroyed. This was a historical event that I did not learn about growing up. Many people were kept in the dark. Including children who grew up in Tulsa decades later. This is a six-episode series from WNYC and The History Channel not just about the tragedy that took place 100 years ago, but about how the city of Tulsa is currently reckoning (or not adequately reckoning) with its lasting and continued damage on the Black community. Listen here.
Podmmunity
I met Riva Puati, the founder of Podmmunity, a few months ago over Zoom. We stayed in touch and found a natural way for our two newsletters (EarBuds and Podmmunity) to work together for the benefit of the podcast-obsessed. Podmmunity is a weekly curated & digestible newsletter full of interesting, relevant links for podcasters. Enjoy a round-up of all things podcasting, from the latest news, podcast recommendations, recording gear, tools, actionable tips, and resources.
Podcasting, Seriously
From Lantigua-Williams & Co., Podcasting, Seriously is a learning platform for podcasters. As the name suggests, it’s run by Juleyka Lantigua-Williams, truly one of the best in the business. Podcasting, Seriously hosts free and paid events, all of which are high-value and unique, as they focus on stories and people who are “erasing the margins.” They also have a really well-curated weekly newsletter.
This Tweet from Wil Williams
But even more-so, the next threaded tweet. SO many people are in the Twitter search engine, hunting for the phrases “podcasts” and “recommendations” so that they can drop a link to an episode that ~almost no one~ will listen to. It’s not that the shows are bad. Though sometimes they are. It’s that…those link drops won’t convert to listens. There ARE smart ways to use Twitter for self promo. But that ain’t it.
Ok, that’s enough! Thanks for indulging me with this change in format. I just had a lot of podcast-related love to give this week. Again, please do let me know what you think.
