Podcast Plunge brings you a sometimes-more-than-weekly newsletter that contains audio-related things that I’ve found around the internet.

🤿 Hello Plungers,
A lot has gone on since we last chatted. And there a bunch of newbie subscribers here. Welcome! If you don’t know me too well, here’s what I do.
If you do know me, reply with a hello. I really like hearing from you about what you’re listening to, your hot takes…even your lukewarm takes. Bring it.
In today’s Plunge:
I’m speaking about podcast marketing at a bunch of upcoming events (free and $$)
Podcasts I’ve been loving (mostly surrounding the 20th anniversary of 9/11…but others too, I promise)
#Tweet100 and how I’m growing on Twitter
Events
TOMORROW: Twitter Spaces with the co-creator of iHeart’s AFTERSHOCK - Tuesday, September 21st
I really enjoyed this fiction podcast about an earthquake that destroyed the Los Angeles area. It was incredibly well-done and captivating the whole way through. Bonus points: it was recorded on SquadCast.
I’m chatting with Imran, creator of Great Pods, and Ben Haber, co-creator of AFTERSHOCK on Twitter Spaces. Hope you can join!
How to Start a Podcast: Workshop with American Marketing Association - Thursday, September 30th
I’m excited to take the virtual stage with JJ Ramberg on International Podcast Day to lead this workshop. We’ll discuss: what resources you will need to start a podcast, how much of a budget you will need, how to decide what type of podcast is right for you, how to grow your audience, and how to get your podcast noticed.
Sound Your Best While Recording Remotely at She Podcasts - Saturday, October 16th
While working at SquadCast, I’ve learned a ton about not only the tech behind remote recording, but the softer skills: AKA how to not be awkward through the computer screen. Or at least, how to lessen the harshness of that awkwardness.
Will you be at She Podcasts? If so, LMK!
Podcasts
9/12
This. Show. Is. So Good. Please listen.
Long Shadow: 9/11’s Lingering Questions
I learned SO many new things about the before and after of 9/11 on this show. Big recommend.
Far From Home
Scott Gurian is a pretty cool journalist (who also joined me for my recent tip to tip walk of Manhattan — bonus points for him)! His show, Far From Home, is a travel podcast. He recently released a 9/11 20th anniversary episode and it made me cry. Really beautiful.
This Is Love
Phoebe Judge makes incredible audio. This week, please listen to Roselle and Michael. Roselle was Michael Higdon’s guide dog, and on 9/11, they made it out of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. When Roselle died, Guiding Eyes retired her name. When I learned that, I blubbered.
Where the Red Cedar Grows
This is a podcast by journalist Anya Steinberg. As a kid and a young adult, she spent summers at Camp UniStar in Cass Lake, Minnesota. Now, she’s learning the history of Star Island (where the camp is located), the lake it sits on, and the town that surrounds it all. She speaks with members of the local Ojibwe tribe about the shady land dealings that, over time, removed native folks from their own land.
False Idol
Ads work. This is a podcast that I heard about as a promo on another podcast. I don’t remember which one. I wasn’t interested at first. But I heard it a few more times. So I tried it out. Incredible reporting. I was immediately in. False Idol tells the story of Oscar Pistorius, a Paralympian who murdered his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013. But it also tells the story of Reeva Steenkamp.
There are many more. I’ll list a few.
This Land, Bad Blood: The Final Chapter, A Bintel Brief, Obscure History.

#Tweet100
I’m participating in a Twitter accountability challenge called #Tweet100. The idea is to create one meaningful Tweet/day for 100 days and hashtag it using #tweet100. So far, it’s pushed me to write what I think might be helpful podcast marketing tips, podcast recommendations, and resources.
It’s a free challenge. If you’re looking to upgrade your Twitter game and enjoy some game-ificiation. I’d check it out. Thank you to Jay Clouse for creating it!
That’s it for now.
