Fake Doctors Real Friends with Zach & Donald is by-far my favorite celebrity-hosted rewatch podcast. Zach Braff and Donald Faison are unbelievably passionate about their mission to rewatch and recap the early 2000s show that they starred on. They are also super giving when it comes to their time and their stories. Listeners really get an insight into their at-home lives.
Another really charming aspect of the show is that Zach and Donald involve many characters in their production. Joelle Monique and Danl Goodman, the show’s producer and engineer, respectively, are often invited to add to the conversation, to offer their opinions, and to update the audience on their lives. Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence is often invited to rewatch along with the crew. It’s really a heartwarming show.
In this episode, Zach and Donald recap season 4’s episode 2, My Office.
Here’s a description of the episode:
On this week's episode, Elliot and JD go toe-to-toe for the honor of being crowned Chief Resident. In the real world, we've got a double guest booking. THE GT is here to tell us about World Kombucha Day. Also, Chalky is back!!!
For this edition of Podcast Plunge, the My Office episode is our anchor, but we’ll be exploring a short-lived topic discussed in the episode…kombucha.
From minute 6:45 - 27:59, GT Dave is a guest on the show. You make recognize GT’s initials from his very-popular brand, GT’s Living Foods. GT’s has been a sponsor of FDRF for almost a year and it seems to be a very beloved product among the production team. Zach and Donald often give away boxes of the drink to guests, which sounds like a pretty sweet sponsor deal to me. They invited GT on the show because they love his kombucha so damn much.
While this episode features more than an interview with GT, including a pretty high Donald Faison, an appearance by Sarah Chalke, and more, we’re gonna focus on kombucha. Let’s plunge.

AKA tea mushroom, tea fungus, or Manchurian mushroom. YUM.
THE RECIPE. Read here.
Kombucha has a long history. Historians believe it’s been consumed for more than 2000 years and that it originates in Manchuria. It’s really pretty simple to make, though the fermentation process can take a while. Prediction: the next big pandemic trend will be at-home kombucha brewing.
THE TIK TOK. Watch here.
From user Brittany Broski. I was extremely delighted when I searched for “kombucha” on Tik Tok and found this woman, of meme fame. Turns out those faces are actually from when she tried kombucha for the first time!
THE TWEET. Read here.
Oh, and then there’s the SCOBY, or: symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. SCOBY is formed after the completion of the fermentation process of lactic acid bacteria, acetic acid bacteria, and yeast to form several sour foods like kombucha and kimchi.
